The Virginia High School League (VHSL) and PlayOn! Sports (PlayOn) jointly announce the launch of the VHSL Network, a partnership providing multi-platform distribution of Virginia High School League sports content. Unprecedented postseason coverage of VHSL events, beginning this fall, will be made available to fans in a variety of live and on-demand formats across television, web and mobile devices.
“The VHSL is excited to have a partner like PlayOn! Sports to enhance coverage of high school sports and athletes in Virginia,” said VHSL Executive Director Ken Tilley. “Fans of Virginia high school sports and activities, whether they are across the state, across the country or around the world, will now have access to these exciting events. At the same time, we are now providing our student athletes and their families unique access to their outstanding achievements.”
The new video portal for the VHSL Network, will host all events produced, with many streamed live and all made available on demand.
“We are thrilled to partner with the VHSL to create a network of high school sports content in Virginia that celebrates Virginia’s student athletes,” said Tim Eichorst, President of PlayOn! Sports. “We are building a library of content that will allow students, families, and communities access to their school’s sports and activities programs in a way they haven’t had before.”
The VHSL Network will commence this fall with coverage of the state championships in several sports, including field hockey semifinals on Friday, November 9, and the 2012 VHSL Cheerleading Championships on Saturday, November 10. Additional coverage throughout the year will feature a wide range of both boys and girls sports in Virginia.
Another component of the VHSL Network is the opportunity for member schools of the VHSL to take advantage of PlayOn’s School Broadcast Program. The School Broadcast Program provides individual schools access to PlayOn’s proprietary technology platform and training to produce regular season sports and school activities, like graduations, pep rallies or school newscasts. This content, typically produced by students, will be featured on individually branded school portals on the VHSL Network portal.
“Schools can leverage the PlayOn platform to create content, provide educational opportunities for students, generate exposure for student athletes, and provide unique digital advertising opportunities for sponsors,” Eichorst said. “We are rolling this program out immediately and plan to have an initial group of schools producing and broadcasting their activities during this spring sports season.”
