Atlanta-based 2080 Media, Inc., which operates as PlayOn! Sports, today announced the completion of a Series C round of financing totaling $7.2 million. The round was led by Buckhead Investment Partners, and includes existing investors Hamilton Ventures and Imlay Investments. The company will use the funding to support geographic expansion and new strategic priorities as it further positions itself as the leader in the high school sports category.
Through partnerships with state high school athletic associations and individual high schools in more than a dozen states, PlayOn! Sports is the nation’s largest rights holder, producer and aggregator of high school sports events. PlayOn! Sports provides value to its partners through rights management, incremental distribution and monetization opportunities, and high quality video production across television, Internet and IP-video enabled devices.
2080 Media used the proceeds from its Series A funding in December 2008 to acquire the assets of PlayOn! Sports from Turner Broadcasting. With the support of its Series B funding in August 2010, the company continued its rapid growth, including an expansion to 12 states and more than 5,000 annual events.
"We are pleased that our strong group of investors continues to support the mission of PlayOn! Sports," said David Rudolph, President and CEO of PlayOn! Sports. "We will continue to expand geographically through new partnerships and will launch several exciting new initiatives in the near future, providing us with the opportunity to showcase even more high school sports events and add value to our partners."
"We are pleased to be a part of PlayOn! Sports' rapid growth and we are excited about the initiatives the company will launch in the coming year," said Mark Buffington, Managing Director of Buckhead Investment Partners. "Under David Rudolph's leadership, PlayOn! Sports is quickly becoming a valuable company."
